About us
Our story
Our professional paths crossed for the first time in the summer of 2020. It was the middle of the pandemic and we were working online as freelance translators, one in Tuscany and the other in Bali. Over the course of the following months – and years – our work became closely connected: we managed projects, clients, and teams together, and this revealed a shared work ethic and very complementary skills. Time passed, we started focusing on our own projects, and then one lucky day the idea to run an agency together began to take shape.
We have diverse and colourful backgrounds within the translation industry. We’ve been involved in many projects as translators, reviewers, and project managers across different areas and topics, and while Stefania specialized in the literary field, Rosa found her niche in software translation. But when it comes to Canary Editors, we work in full sync: Stefania pays attention to the finer details, and has the eagle eye that composes beautifully crafted pages; Rosa prefers to look at the bigger picture and ensure that all of our projects are running smoothly.
One thing is clear: our shared passion for the written word, the translation industry, and for a job well done. We treat every project with the same great care and dedication, and we look forward to helping you with yours.
Born and raised in Italy, currently based in Tuscany, I completed a Master’s Program in Literary Translation and Text Editing at the University of Siena and worked with several Italian publishing houses, mainly translating novels by Hispanic-American authors — such as Mario Benedetti, Sergio Pitol and Rodolfo Walsh — and English-speaking writers, including JRR Tolkien.
Alongside my career as a literary translator, I took specialized courses in e-book creation and typesetting for the publishing industry. I also work as a subtitler and interpreter, as you can see on my freelancer website
During the pandemic, I worked as a project manager and proofreader for an international translation agency where I met Rosa, my partner in crime at Canary Editors.
I was born in Madrid and live in Lanzarote, a volcanic island in the Canarian archipelago that is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. A passion for languages and cultures from an early age drove me to study a BA in French and Japanese at the University of Manchester and an MA in Translation Studies at Portsmouth University. I went on to work in some of the biggest global translation agencies as project manager, key account manager, and ultimately team lead.
Since I went fully freelance in 2019, I’ve collaborated as a translator, language manager, project manager, and CPO with some small and medium translation agencies in Europe and Asia. You can visit my professional site here. It was in one of these agencies that Stefania and I met, and we quickly discovered that we are a (professional) match made in heaven!
